Type Locality and Naming

Includes in Hisar-Zarafshan ranges, and Obisafit, Turkparidin, Chakykalya typesections. It is distinguished and detailed by V. D. Saltovskaya (1965; 1966; 1974).

Synonym: Snegirin suite, снежнинская свита

Lithology and Thickness

It is formed by characteristic thin-bedded limestones with nodules, lenses, and interlayers of black cherts. The thickness is 70-100 m.

The rocks of the Snegirin Fm are overlain with erosion by the Bachauldin Fm deposits.

Regional extent

They are widespread in the Turkestan, Zarafshan-Gissar, and Karategin regions.

Fossils

It contains a complex of foraminifera and brachiopods of the Namurian(Serpukhovian) - base of the Bashkirian stages Eostaffella pseudostruvei Raus. et Bel., Pseudostaffella antiqua (Dutk.), Ps. proozawai Kir., Spirifer bisulcatus Sow.

From the fossil data, it is represented Serpukhovian - Bashkirian for schematic stratigraphic purpose.
